Do you know that feeling when you are searching for something and then you find what you need? How about screaming when it actually works out better than you anticipated? I LOVE finding a game that allows my children to both learn and develop a few skills at the same time. Recently I turned to Amazon (where would I be without it?) to find a few fine motor games for pencil grasp development.
I cannot stress how important fine motor skills are as it relates to pencil grasp development. If you need a quick refresher then read 5 Tips for Pencil Grasp Development with Preschoolers as well as 5 Fine Motor Activities to Encourage Your Child’s Pencil Grasp.

- Fine Motor Set
I have actually lost count of how many times we have used items from the set. We are particularly fond of the handy scooper, the gator grabber as well as the squeezy tweezer.
- Play Dough
Honestly, play dough is one of the most used items by my kids. In fact, I recently shared a video on my FB page showing that we only had 2 left!! Yup time to stock up again.
When these bad boys come out, just know that your kids are working hard on those visual motor skills that are important for learning to write.
- Stack It, Peg it Game
This game allows your kids to stack pegs or even simply sort by color with the mats. If they love stacking blocks, they will love stacking pegs.
This game will be ideal for when I need to get a quick task done or if the kids need a quick sorting activity during their quiet time. The bugs will also make excellent math counters.
- Mini Muffin Match Up
In addition to fine motor skills development that will help with pencil grasp, these bad boys help your kids to develop:
- color recognition
- Wooden Lacing Cards and Life Skills Learn To Dress Boards
Want to work on fine motor while helping your kids work on life skills? These boards allow your kids to zip, snap, lace as well as learn how to button, to buckle and tie.
